222/ Reunion in France (Jules Dassin 1942)

Picture
Paris in this film is, necessarily, a studio confection, made authentic with newsreel footage, flags, signposts and accents... alongside views of the Eiffel Tower.

No need was felt to show France on a map. All we have is this, of the region around Paris. It appears at a moment when the action leaves Dassin's ersatz Paris for an ersatz forest of Fontainebleau.

For Dassin's vision of a real Paris, see Du rififi chez les hommes, here and here.
