the sculptures in Made in USA (1966)
In the penultimate sequence of Godard's Made in USA, David Goodis shoots Richard Widmark before being himself shot by Paula Nelson. This sequence was shot in July 1966 at the house of architect and sculptor André Bloc:
Bloc built the house for himself in 1949 and made of the surroundings a space for exhibiting his sculpture. He also installed two 'sculptures habitacles', inhabitable sculptures, one of which can be glimpsed in Godard's film:
In total four different pieces can be seen in the grounds as Anna Karina, Laszlo Szabo and Yves Afonso play out the scene:
A few more pieces can be seen inside the house, through the windows:
André Bloc died in November 1966, three months before Made in USA was released. His house, which is in Meudon at 6 rue des Capucins, is privately owned but is a listed monument.
